The Thin Dimes

Sometimes living right across the street from a park can be annoying but this past Saturday was a real treat! There was a little festival going on and a sweet little bluegrass/folk band was playing. They sounded really awesome so I took my son over and we listened & danced to them. I am kind of in love with their music! They did 2 performances. My son's nap happened to be during their second performance but because we live right across the street we were able to watch from our front porch! How neat! The Thin Dimes are from St. Louis, MO. You can listen to some more of their songs here

the february snowstorm

It has been a cozy snow day here. The evening news said we had 11 inches of snow today! That means we have been enjoying each others company by playing & spending the entire day in our pajamas. Kind of perfect if you ask me... Hope everyone in the path of the storm is staying safe and warm!

sickness

This year has started off on the wrong foot so far. My husband and son both got sick with the flu and now I seem to have caught something. With it also being so dark and cloudy lately and also not feeling well I have been trying to enjoy small things that make me smile like treating myself to a dark chocolate bar, flowers and orange juice in a "fancy" cup! Hopefully we all start recovering and the sun will come out again soon so we can get this year started right!

granny square pillow

At the beginning of the summer I had planned on making a granny square blanket and be done with it by fall... well...

That didn't happen but I didn't want to waste the squares I did make so I made a pillow cover with them instead.

It's a little lopsided and uneven in places but I think it's charming in a way. It makes me smile every time I walk by my couch and see it. It reminds me of my great grandmother!

autumn bucket list

2012 autumn bucket list
aahh.... autumn... it's such a magical time of year! There is nothing like the sights & smells of this season! It's also the best time to start traditions with our little family. I wrote out a list of some of the things we must do this fall.

  • go for a hayride
  • visit the pumpkin patch
  • bonfire with s'mores
  • go on a walk & collect leaves
  • picnic
  • pick out a pumpkin
  • carve pumpkin
  • roast pumpkin seeds
  • bake a pie
  • watch It's The Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown
  • drink hot chocolate with marshmallows in my favorite mug
  • coffee dates

What are some of your autumn traditions?

We visited the Missouri State Fair today. We have both lived in Missouri most of our lives yet we had never been to the state fair so we decided we needed to today!

So. Much. Fun.

ukelele

Seth gave me my mother's day gift early this year... a ukelele! I told him that I wanted to learn to play not thinking I would ever get the chance but he found this ukelele really cheap on ebay. It's nothing fancy but I can begin to learn and if I decide I like it we can get a better one. I am so excited!

recently finished project

Black Ribbed Hat side

Seth modeled the first adult hat that I knitted. I made this for my brother-in-law for Christmas. I knitted it on straight needles & it only took 1 skein of Lion Brand's Hometown USA. I really want to learn to knit on circular needles now!

nursery decorating

This past week has been tough on me. My back is always hurting and my tummy feels like it can't stretch more. On top of that my allergies have been worse than ever! I had been dreading the fast approaching due date because of fear of giving birth but I think after this week I'm feeling a peace about it. I really felt a peace about it after our friends, Tonya & Dana, had their baby yesterday. We went right to the hospital as soon as they texted us that she had the baby. She looked so good and happy and that really eased some fears. Their precious little girl was so adorable! I totally started bawling when I held her. It just made everything feel so real!

When we got home Seth went into nesting mode like crazy. He immediately started working on the nursery. We finally got the glider! That was the one thing I knew I absolutely wanted. He organized Baby T's clothes & toys and arranged the furniture in a better way while I took a nap. Then he wanted to add a little more decor on the walls. We have a cute hot air balloon painting above the crib we got a few years ago. Seth felt like the walls needed a little more. I told him I had seen some vintage hot air balloon hooks but Seth wanted to make our own. So he cut out some balloon shapes and bought some paint and we each painted a balloon. I painted the red one and Seth did the green one.

My favorite detail though is the love notes on the back from each of us. It just makes my heart happy!
This makes my heart happy!

I can't wait to meet the little guy!!

30 weeks & labor day weekend

We are in week 30! I'm definitely feeling pregnant these days. My body aches in the mornings, I'm out of breath most of the time & his movements are crazy!

I've also been dealing with tiredness still. Today I feel great but yesterday I felt like I never fully woke up. I cleaned the kitchen & living room and fell asleep on the couch. My house is tiny so I could finish cleaning in an hour and half but I was beat after finishing only half of it!

My allergies have kicked up which makes the normal aches and pains feel even more intense... and I got sick Sunday night. I woke up on Monday so sore and achey from getting sick, my allergies & the normal aches and pains from pregnancy. But the weather was fantastic so I was determined to enjoy the day. I took some allergy medicine and forced myself to take a shower and I dressed up for the fun of it. I feel like if I look good it will help me feel better.

30 weeks

30 weeks belly

Our labor day weekend was pretty relaxed. We spent Saturday making tons and tons of little sugar cookie men for the Jr. Church craft on Sunday. I think they turned out adorable! We had some leftovers and they were so good. They were small enough it was like eating animal crackers so I had to stop myself from just munching on them all day!

Making tons of cookies for jr church tomorrow :)

Like I said, the weather has been wonderful! I love the crisp mornings! The cats & I are enjoying the windows open during the day but what makes it really feel like fall is the fact that I FINALLY found some candy corn at Walmart. I kept reading on twitter about people eating them so I would check every week to see if they carried them yet. This week they finally arrived! hooray!!

Finally found some candy corn! Fall can begin now :)

I'm so excited for fall!!

cravings

I haven't had many crazy cravings because of pregnancy but one thing I seem to really really want lately is york peppermint patties. I can't get enough of them! My friend, Amy, found a box of 175 york peppermint patties on Amazon for $19.42.... so tempting!! But I may get a bag of them from Wal-Mart next time I'm there... :)
Satisfied my craving :)

Also what is a post without my cats doing something funny or cute right? The cats had to stay the night at the vet the other night so when we went to pick them up yesterday I walked over to the window and found them cuddling in the litter box. What proud cat owners we are! Seth said one day we will probably find our child sitting in the toilet. I love my family. :)

last week

Last week was pretty busy with birthdays & getting Seth ready for NYR. Friday was Seth's 28th birthday but since he was going to be on the road all day on his birthday so we decided to celebrate his birthday early. It was also another NYR sponsor's birthday on Friday we got together on Wednesday & had a joint birthday celebration in Kansas City. We went to BD Mongolian for dinner. It was our first time going there. They have a buffet of raw meat & vegetables and you fill your bowl with all the meat & vegetables you could want and then you pick out the sauces & spices and they grill it all on their grill. So delicious!

Then we went to the Royals game & had a great time despite the heat. It was just a great night spending it with great friends, good food & a baseball game!
Last night was a fun night with bdays, good food & baseball game!

The cats were desperately needing baths. This is a once a year event because they don't particularly enjoy it. But I love how soft & clean smelling they are afterwards!

All done with bathtime!

Unhappy about bathtime

We took this photo before this horrible heat wave & drought killed off all our plants. I can't even remember the last time it rained here. We need it bad. I think we may possibly be getting some rain tonight. *crossing fingers*

I got to spend some quality time with my grandmother this weekend. It was really nice having her visit. My mother is also coming this week to keep me company while Seth is in Colorado. I'm really looking forward to spending time with her as well.

Hope everyone's week is wonderful!

22 weeks

I finally got around to taking some photos of my slowly but surely growing belly. Hopefully I can remember to take photos weekly.

This past week we had our July appointment. The doctor said everything is looking normal & healthy. I am starting to feel out of breath more often. Sometimes even while not doing much! I walked up the steps today at church and my heart was pounding & I felt like I ran a mile! He is also becoming really active. It took me about an hour to fall asleep last night because of all the kicks & squirming around! I hope I have energy for this little guy when he is born! I think he is going to be an active baby!
